Summer Lovin' by Jen Carlson
There’s one thing that I absolutely love about summer, and that’s BBQ. Truth be told, I will fire the grill up throughout the year, which isn’t tough living in California. However, it is the summer that I truly appreciate my grill! There is no way that I am going to turn on the oven in 107’ heat! This layout is about how we spent the 4th of July and how celebrations are sometimes just about spending time together as a family.
I selected the multi-colored striped journaling card as my starting point because the colors were fabulous. It would easily allow me to pull in blue, orange, and yellow from other journaling cards as well as tones within the photos. I simply stamped Summer Fun on the top and boom, complete.
I loved the “I love you more than bacon” journaling card from the July Monthly Kit, as soon as I saw it. One of my favorite things to do in scrapbooking is to repurpose or redefine a product. This card was intended for brunch themed layouts. But hey! I can also use it paired with a photo of my dog because…dogs love bacon…I love bacon…but I do love my dog more. It works, right?
I created the yellow card with journaling by first stamping the watermelon outline stamp from the Summer Fun set along the bottom. I really like to stamp patterns on cards, yet on a solid color card can sometimes seem vanilla. A subtle pattern though, makes it a little more interesting and grounded. I then simply fed it through my typewriter to document the day.
The blue lined card provided the perfect amount of white space to add some fun summer descriptors. I carefully inked the Summer is… stamp only on the one side as it fit perfectly after the addition of that super cute little grill image. Don’t let the white space limit you! It’s ok to color outside the lines!
Thanks for stopping by to take a look at my pocket page spread! I hope this inspires you to take more summer photos, print them out, and get them in your albums! After all, the sun is shining, so get out and have some fun!
